FAQ

What is applied improvisation?

Applied improvisation uses the principles, tools, and mindset of improvisational theatre in non-theatrical settings — to help individuals and teams build essential skills such as communication, adaptability, creativity, and confidence.

Do we have to act or role-play?

No — there's no acting, no performing, no role-playing.

Our PurposePlay™ workshops use engaging, playful group exercises in a supportive, equal-footing and non-judgmental environment to practice skills in connecting, communicating and collaborating.

Do participants have to prepare for a workshop?

No preparation is needed. Each applied improvisation group exercise will be introduced, explained and guided by the facilitator throughout the workshop.

Is there a risk of failure?

There is no risk of failure or 'getting it wrong' in a PurposePlay workshop.

There is no competition, no performing and no pressure — just group exercises where everyone participates equally in a safe, supportive space that encourages openness and connection.

Who are the workshops suitable for?

PurposePlay workshops are suitable for people across all levels — from leadership teams and boards to operational staff. Workshops can be tailored in ways relevant to their roles.

Most sessions typically run 2 to 3 hours, including a break, to deliver an engaging and impactful applied improvisation experience.
